Introduction to the WebEvent Calendar Program

WebEvent is a World Wide Web calendar program which allows users to access event (calendar) information in a familiar format. Users can access the information from any computer which is connected to the World Wide Web.

With the ability to display the information in either text or table formats, WebEvent is useful to everyone. With WebEvent, you no longer need to know HTML in order to create a calendar of events. Simply choose the date you want to modify, enter a title and description, and a new event will be added to the calendar. You might also want to note that it is possible, if you so desire, to include html in both the title and description.

Viewing a WebEvent Calendar

WebEvent calendars show information in monthly and daily formats. Once you choose a specific calendar, you will be placed in the current month with the default configuration. The installation default is a table format which lists the titles of events for that month. You have a number of choices available to you, but the simplest is to choose an event and the description will be shown to you on a separate page.

The Month View

At the top of the view month screen, you are given four options:

Configure | [Current Month] | Jump to Month | Help

Additional Help on Configure

The configure screen allows you to select how you want the events and descriptions displayed on your screen. There are four different options:

  1. Tables

The Table display will show you this month's events using Netscape HTML table extentions. Once you choose an event, a new screen with the description of the event will be displayed to you. The events are listed in alphabetical order so that you can use times and dates to achieve any order you want.

  2. Tables with descriptions

This works the same as the Tables view, except that the descriptions are listed below the month view. Choosing a title in the month table will jump to that listing below.

  3. Text

This displays the events using a standard list view. You can see each description on a new page by selecting the title.

  4. Text with descriptions

Works the same as the Text view but shows the descriptions below each title.

Adding or Modifying Calendar Entries

If you have been authorized to modify a particular WebEvent Calendar, you can add or modify entries in that calendar. Please note that authorization is WWW-server specific. You will need to use your own methods to insure proper authorization. For more information, please view the authorization file.

Other Miscellaneous Notes and Information

Titles of entries can be of any length. However, they CANNOT have the underscore character '_' as this will cause confusion in the show-description screen. This will hopefully be resolved in the future.
