Feb. 3-9, 2013 : COPÁN AND THE NORTH COAST OF HONDURAS

Share your enthusiasm for photography, birds, and other tropical wildlife as you adventure with award-winning photographer, Jeff Parker, through three different eco-systems.

First up on this Honduras' photo tour, we'll explore the celebrated birding region of the Copán Ruins Valley in Western Honduras. Then we’re off to the vibrant jungles and estuaries of the renowned North Coast.

Noted by American Airlines’ first-class magazine, Celebrated Living-CL, as a top-tour, this journey holds room for six (6) adventurers to accompany Jeff and capture the region’s abundant flora and fauna--big and little--through lenses--big and small.

Our fun begins at the deluxe Hacienda San Lucas, nestled into the verdant hills near Copán, in the region known as the “Paris of the Mayan World.” Afterwards, we head to the North Coast--Honduras’ nature-tourism hot-spot--where we indulge ourselves at the premier Lodge at Pico Bonito. The trip also includes an excursion and photo-op through the bountiful estuaries of Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge.

If you love tropical wildlife—especially birds—this is your wildlife photography tour!

Price is $2995 for this six (6) night, all-inclusive trip (double-occupancy). Limit six (6) travelers. First come, first served.

    Winter In Yellowstone
February 6-12, 2013 : Experience the magic of Yellowstone National Park in the quiet of winter.  There are far fewer people than in the busy summer months and the winter environment is quiet and intimate. The wide open Lamar Valley has been called the Serengeti of the American west and home to several wolf packs, coyotes, elk and bison. This is the time when the bison gather around the hot springs and bald eagles are easy to spot in the bare trees along the Firehole and Madison Rivers. Opportunities for scenic and wildlife photography abound and we will visit all the significant locations in private snow coaches and glavals.

    Art Wolfe International Workshop, Japan
February 19-March 1, 2013 : Travel with world renowned photographer Art Wolfe on this exciting and productive photo expedition.

The image many of us have of Japan is congested and kinetic. But, Japan has a wild side. Beyond its crowded cities, the country delivers quiet unexpected natural beauty. Join this photographic pilgrimage to Hokkaido, the macaque snow monkeys in the south, and the sacred temples.

Here is a quick note that Art dictated regarding this tour:

One of the things I enjoy most, besides taking photographs, is taking people along with me to some of my favorite locations. Sharing the experiences I love with others is very fulfilling. I’ve been taking small groups of people to some of the locations that the favorite episodes of Travels to the Edge took place.

As seen in one of the episodes from Travels to the Edge, Japan in winter is simply magical. Much of the wildlife has been habituated to people, and therefore translates into amazing photographic experiences.

First we’ll visit the snow macaques that live in the mountains about 2 hours west of Tokyo. Here in an isolated steep cut valley with an amazing mountain lodge are 3 extended families of macaques, numbering around 50. Because they are the most northern primate on earth, they have the longest, luxuriant fur of any primates, particularly in the winter months. They come down from the pine and oak forests and for a couple of hours a day they hang around a natural hot spring. They have been habituated to people visiting them there, so you can photograph from within inches without interrupting their behavior, which is very animated and fun. It is a photographic bonanza.

After visiting the macaques, we will travel to the northern island of Hokkaido. Hokkaido reminds me a bit of Alaska, full of forests of birch, pine and fir with a back drop of beautiful volcanic mountains. There are also large lakes and wild running rivers, and hosts three species of bird wildlife that are extraordinary to photograph. The Japanese Crane has been symbolized in Japanese culture for thousands of years due to its grace and beauty. Giant whooper swans come in the winter months from nesting in Siberia. They have been fed by locals for years, helping them sustain thru the winter, as well as creating an easy and wonderful photographic opportunity for us! And often Stellar sea eagles will swoop around the same area. They are massive black and white raptors that winter over on the icy shores of Hokkaido. The days are short in February on Hokkaido, but the beautiful hues of sunrise and sunset are protracted allowing us hours to capture quite stunning images.

After sunset we will have time for a hot bath at the lodge before eating a traditional Japanese meal. After dinner we will have time for lectures and critiques before calling it a day. With the abridged daylight, it really allows for a nice schedule to fit everything in and still have enough hours for a good night’s sleep! Since we travel in and out of Tokyo, you will get to experience the surreal and wonderful contrast that Japan has to offer, not only the very modern and bustling city, but the natural and beautiful countryside.

    Tenth Annual Winter In Yosemite
February 21-24, 2013 : Winter in Yosemite offers spectacular photographic opportunities that are not available during other seasons. The changing temperature often results in misty meadows and fog shrouded peaks which surround the valley floor. Winter is also the time when the sun aligns with the valley lighting up Horsetail Fall, Half Dome and El Captain, creating striking images that occur only in the winter. Most tourists plan their visits to Yosemite during the warm, crowded summer months, allowing for a more peaceful and serene time for the winter visitor. We will photograph Half Dome, El Capitan and other Yosemite icons, but I think it is equally as important to find locations and images that are fresh and unique.
