I've been playing with cameras all of my life to some degree. My 20+ years of information technology experience, coupled with the advent of digital media refueled that love. I've been actively pursuing photography, professionally, on a part time basis since 2006. I currently conduct workshops, speak for photographic organizations and provide private instruction on everything from capture to output. I am also the photography chair at a local non-profit gallery. How long have you been an active member of NANPA? I joined NANPA in 2007 What Summits/Forums have you attended? I've attended all three Summits available to me since becoming a NANPA member. I've worked as a volunteer for image reviews at all three Summits and have been a "Summit Buddy" for the last two years. I also attended and volunteered at the 2009 Road Show event in Sacramento. Have you served as a NANPA volunteer or worked on a committee? I am currently the chair of the Technology committee and sit on the web committee. What particular expertise and/or qualities would you bring to the NANPA Board? While my job titles have varied throughout my professional career, my role within each organization has been roughly the same. At the very lowest level I am a problem solver. I have the ability to look at hard questions objectively and produce well thought out solutions. How would you use your abilities to further the NANPA mission? I believe that there is a tremendous amount of work to be down in the area of information dissemination. In 2009, NANPA just started to get some traction in the area of alternative, or social, media. Leveraging those technologies to promote the full mission of NANPA has a great deal of potential. While that has been a role of mine as Technology chairman, having board focus in that area could be very productive. How do you envision NANPA's role in the future of nature photography? How would you further that role? NANPA has, historically, done an excellent job of the area of spreading their conservation message and has been instrumental in the fight to protect the rights of nature photographers. I'd love to see the same progress made spreading the message of ethics and standards within the industry. I am currently the NANPA liaison with PLUS. I'd love to be able to leverage my role on the board to further develop that relationship. Why do you want to serve on the NANPA Board of Directors? If elected, what would you personally like to accomplish during your term on the NANPA Board? NANPA has been a tremendous resource for me. Having been involved in other non-profit, volunteer run, organizations I understand the need for hard working volunteers. I'd love to be able to focus some of me energy towards helping NANPA spread its message, grow its membership and continue to uniting force amongst nature photographers. |
