NANPA 2008 Board of Directors Candidate Information

The following NANPA members were chosen by the Nominations and Elections Committee to fill upcoming seats on the Board of Directors. Voting will be done primarily online, via website balloting. If you wish to have a print ballot mailed to you, please contact the NANPA office.

Ballot notifications will be sent via e-mail. Check your mailbox for a link to the ballot. You may also get a ballot by logging in to the Members' Area and clicking the "2008 Board of Directors Ballot" link.

All votes must be received by December 2, 2007 to be counted.

Ralph Clevenger

Ralph Clevenger grew up on the coast of North Africa and began diving in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea at the age of seven. He studied zoology at San Diego State University and worked as a diver/biologist for the Scripps Institution of Oceanography before attending the Brooks Institute of Photography. Ralph worked as an associate with renowned nature photographer George Lepp and in 1983 was offered a teaching position at the Brooks Institute of Photography. Ralph has traveled throughout the world on assignment for clients such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium, California State Parks, MacGillivray-Freeman Films, Phillips Interactive Media, Fox Sports Network, Santa Barbara Zoo, The Nature Conservancy, Denali National Park Wilderness Center, the National Park Service and the National Marine Sanctuary. Some of his publication credits include Audubon, Oceans, Outside, National Geographic Traveler, Popular Photography, Smithsonian Books and others. Ralph's stock images are represented worldwide by Corbis Images.


Susan McElhinney

Susan began her career as a photojournalist after earning a fine arts degree in 1971. While most of her time was spent as a freelancer, she was on staff with Newsweek Magazine in the Washington Bureau from 1975-1980. From 1994-2001, she worked for National Geographic World, initially as a part time photo editor, then later as part of the staff. Since 2001, she has worked as photo director of the National Wildlife Federation's three children's publication, Ranger Rick, Your Big Backyard and Wild Animal Baby. She is also an active environmentalist and says the leap from photojournalism to nature photography has been a natural evolution of her interests and concerns.


Boyd Norton

Boyd Norton has been photographing, writing about, and working for wilderness protection for 45 years. He is author/photographer of 14 books, with two more to be published in 2008. His many magazine credits include Time, National Geographic, Audubon, Smithsonian, Natural History, Popular Photography, Outdoor Photographer, Geo, and Outside. He is past Trustee of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and currently a director of Baikal Watch, dedicated to preserving wilderness in Siberia. He's a member of ASMP, a Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP) and a Founder, Fellow and Charter member of NANPA. Through testimony before U.S. Senate and House hearings he played key roles in establishment of numerous wilderness areas in the Rocky Mountains and new national parks in Alaska. He also worked on designation of Siberia's Lake Baikal as World Heritage Site. Starting in 1973, Boyd was a pioneer in the field of nature photography workshops.


Bill Plunkett

Bill Plunkett has always lived in the Northeast Texas area where he attended Stephen F. Austin State University and received a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. After college, he spent the next 30 years in the computer software industry where he worked for a large corporation and later owned his own software consulting business. He is currently the Director of Digital Photography for the New Mexico Photography Field School in Santa Fe where he develops and leads workshops specifically for digital photographers. He and his wife, Sarah, were married in 1972 and have two grown children and two small grandchildren. They have traveled widely and photographed in some of the most incredible places on earth, including the Masai Mara, Serengeti, Patagonia and Antarctica.

Budd Titlow has operated NATUREGRAPHS: Freelance Photography and Writing for 30 years. A Professional Wetland Scientist and Wildlife Biologist, he also owns Titlow Ecological Consultants, LLC. During his career, Budd has published several thousand photographs, including credits in the 2003 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Portfolio and 2004 Wall Calendar, BBC Wildlife Magazine, Sierra Club Notecards, Outdoor Photographer, National Wildlife, Audubon, Outside, Nature's Best, Travel/Holiday, Time/Life Publications, Popular Photography, and Petersen's Photographic. His latest book, Seashells - Jewels from the Ocean, will be available from Voyageur Press in November 2007. Throughout his career, Budd has shared his love of photography and nature by presenting seminars and workshops throughout the United States.
