Resource Relations Committee

Charge: Promotes dialogue with public resource managers toward improved access of public lands by photographers. Promote members as having the highest ethical standards regarding behavior in the environment and regarding wildlife; develop cooperative programs of NANPA and land managing agencies.

The Resource Relations Committee of NANPA is dedicated to helping NANPA establish relationships with natural resource management officials at local, state, federal and provincial nature resource areas, refuges and parks.

In keeping with the mission of NANPA, education about the ethics and environmental impacts of nature photography is vital to the continued access for all nature photographers to such nature resource centers.

Our goals include:

  1. Assisting natural resource managers to educate nature photographers and others about the impact use has on their facilities;

  2. Publicizing NANPA's Principles of Ethical Field Practices so that all may learn about proper ethics for exploring natural locations; for example, see article about NANPA's Ethics Sign;

  3. Providing members and the general public information regarding access issues to natural resources; for example, see:
      - NANPA's Public Lands Access Statement
      - NANPA Responds to the NPS Permit Proposal
      - National Park Service Photographer Access Policy
      - Public Law 106-206 - Commercial Filming on Public Lands
      - Letter to Outdoor Photographer magazine about proposals affecting nature photographers

  4. Exchanging dialogue and information regarding the work of nature photographers with natural resource managers to improve communications regarding concerns that might develop about impacts on the resources.

The Resource Relations Committee works in coordination with various related committees of NANPA including, but not limited to, the Environment Committee, the Communications Committee and the Ethics Committee, to achieve its goals.
