NANPA Regional Forum -
The Black Hills and Badlands

October 2-5, 2003 - at the historic State Game Lodge
Custer State Park, South Dakota

Join us for two and a half days and three nights in the beautiful Black Hills and Badlands of western South Dakota! Shoot all day long with experienced pro photographers who will personalize their instruction to meet your film or digital needs!

Bison, pronghorn, prairie dogs, deer and bighorn sheep will be in prime coats looking their absolute best in the Black Hills meadows, rocky hills and open prairies of Custer State Park, Wind Cave and Badlands National Parks (see attractions). Temperatures should be comfortable for entire days of shooting and evenings of viewing images. Develop your vision, sharpen a skill, learn something new in wide-open spaces and great new places! Check-in anytime Thursday afternoon, October 2, at the Game Lodge, Highway 16A in Custer State Park (Printable PDF Map). Schedules for each day will be posted the night before on the NANPA Forum marquee in the Game Lodge lobby. Leaders will schedule some down-time during the day. The event concludes Sunday after brunch at Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, around noon.

On-site registration, check-in, meals, lodging, evening programs and slide/digital critiques are at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park.

Forum headquarters is the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park. A selection of hotel, motel and cabin units is available. Camping with no electricity or water (bathhouse available) and two disability/accessible camping spots with electricity and water are available at the Game Lodge campgrounds.

Fee covers photo instruction, use of digital equipment (limited), admissions to Wind Cave and Mammoth sites, evening programs, guide services, maps and family or guest admittance to the evening programs.

Not included in the fee: Park entrance fees ($5-20), parking at Mt. Rushmore ($8), excellent meals, fuel, lodging, and state and national park licenses. These are all available on site.

All field shoots will be in Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Badlands National Park, the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, the Black Hills Needles Highway and Mt. Rushmore. Travel is by your own vehicle in small groups with a lead pro photographer providing instruction to meet your needs.

Also, the best images produced by each person at this forum will be considered for publication in a photo essay for the Spring/Summer 2004 issue of South Dakota Magazine.
