Photographers
JACK BALLARD . . . from Montana . . . photographs and writes articles about recreational activities including birding, hunting, fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, canoeing, hiking, children's conservation and the natural history of wildlife. His work has appeared in over two dozen magazines including Deer & Deer Hunting, WOW, Montana Magazine, VFW Magazine, Paddler, Bugle, Colorado Outdoors, Camping Life, Birds & Blooms, American Hunter and Women in the Outdoors. He teaches evening education and philosophy classes at Montana State University, Billings. Jack will lead and advise us on how to produce photos for illustrated articles.
MICHAEL H. FRANCIS . . . from Montana . . . specializes in North American big game. His wildlife photographs have appeared in numerous publications, including Field and Stream, Outdoor Life, National Wildlife, Audubon, Time and Natural History. He is the sole photographer for 24 books, including Muledeer Country, Elk Country, Into the Wind & Wild Horses of North America, Track of the Coyote, Moose and a number of wildlife viewing guides to the national parks. Michael is currently working on a photo history of his 30 years at Yellowstone National Park. He is president of the board of directors of NANPA. Mike will lead us in pursuit of mammals in the parks.
CHARLES GLATZER . . . from New York . . . owns and conducts both land and underwater "Charles Glatzer Instructional Photographic Workshops" throughout the USA. A full-time pro since 1983, he is a Certified Professional Photographer with a Master of Photography degree. He is a twice recipient of the Kodak Gallery Award of Excellence in the photographic arts. Chas produces images for stock agencies, represents FUJI USA in various projects, and is a partner in Naturephotographers.net, one of the web's more popular education sites for nature photography. He is an accomplished avian and mammal photographer. Chas will teach intro to digital photography for the amateur or pro. (http://www.charlesglatzer.net/)
JASON LINDSEY . . . from North Dakota . . . specializes in location assignment and stock photography, including advertising, travel, tourism, outdoor lifestyle, and landscape. His images are used around the world by advertising, annual reports, books such as National Geographic and Scott Foresman, calendars and magazines such as Backpacker, Outdoor Photographer, Science, and Midwest Living. He is the author of Windy City Wild: Chicago's Natural Wonders. Jason will lead field trips in travel photography along the famous Black Hills Needles highway and teach us how to acquire, store, edit and transmit digital images for the story from the road. STEVEN G. MAKA . . . from Massachusetts . . . is an international traveler and nature photographer with extensive design training who specializes in remote, vast and fragile ecosystems such as in Canada's Northwest Territories. Major national magazine credits include Audubon, Earth, National/International Wildlife, Nature Conservancy, Nature's Best Photography, Sierra, National Parks, and Smithsonian. In his instruction, Steve emphasizes art, philosophy, and personal creative development rather than technology. He serves on NANPA's board of directors and is president-elect. PAUL HORSTED . . . from South Dakota . . . is a full-time photographer who lives in Custer, SD, not far off Custer's Expedition route of 1874. Paul's photographs of South Dakota's people and places have been published in dozens of magazines and books over the past 20 years. His most recent book is with Ernest Grafe, "Exploring with Custer". Paul will present a slide show Saturday evening of the 1874 photos of Custer's photographer, William H. Illingworth and their modern day counterparts located by diaries and GPS and re-photographed by Paul. (http://www.dakotaphoto.com/)
