Your "Peek" at the 2003 NANPA Summit
This is the fourth monthly issue for the NANPA Ninth Annual Summit Email Newsletter (see the Website for the previous issues). Each issue will highlight areas of the upcoming Summit being held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, February 19 23, 2003. We have also included many links to Websites that can give you even more information on certain areas. We hope you enjoy these newsletters and welcome your feedback or questions for future issues.
NEW INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE FOR THOSE ALREADY REGISTERED! To help you navigate through all that the Summit offers, we are implementing a new area of the Website. You can now get information on what to bring if you are on a field trip or doing a review. You can also find out about exhibitor listings, Editorial/Portfolio Reviewer open time slots, meeting updates and Silent Auction donations. Events are being held in both the Hyatt Regency Hotel and the Albuquerque Convention Center across the street, and the site includes information on the hotel, directions, and other aspects of the two sites. All of this information will be updated weekly until the Summit
begins. In the next issue we will be providing information on how and where to pick up your registration packet and avoid lines.
NEED A ROOM AT THE HYATT? Although the deadline has passed, NANPA has a small number of rooms still available if you have not made a reservation already. To make a reservation, you will need to go through the NANPA office, as the hotel is sold out for Tuesday and Wednesday nights. We will turn in your reservation information and forward you a confirmation number. Please contact Jan Hathaway at the NANPA office at (303) 422-8527 or email her at info@nanpa.org with your needed arrival and departure dates and contact information. We will follow up with you directly for additional information needed to complete the reservation.
Want help with the cost of lodging? You can get a roommate to split the costs. Contact the NANPA office at pdins@nanpa.org to receive a list of attendees looking for roommates. |

MEET KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Theo Allofs
Originally trained as a geologist, Theo embarked on a career as a travel photographer in the mid- 1980s, professionally producing and presenting multi-image slide shows in front of large audiences for 11 years.
Eventually he followed his true calling and passion and became a full-time nature and wildlife photographer in 1996. Thanks to his extensive travels of about eight months each year, he has compiled a large archive of nature, wildlife and travel images that is constantly growing.
During his relatively short career in nature photography, Theo has received numerous international photography awards, including two first prizes in the renowned BG Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. His images and stories have appeared in major natural history and other magazines worldwide, including American Photo, GEO, International Wildlife, National Geographic, National Wildlife, Natural History, Outside and Smithsonian. He is a frequent contributor to a number of photography magazines such as Outdoor Photographer, Photo Life, Shutterbug and several in Europe.
Theo's wildlife images go beyond portraits. They reflect the photographer's talent to capture the spirit of his wild subjects, to depict the animals as essential parts of their natural environment and to isolate and preserve fleeting moments of action, interaction or animal emotions.
Wild Horizons In a fascinating journey around the globe, Theo will take you to his favorite wildlife and landscape destinations, including Australia, the Amazon rainforest, Pantanal and the Namib Desert. Follow his quest to document endangered species and learn the challenges, joys and woes of photographing nature in all conditions.
