What did you miss if you didn't attend last year's meeting?  Here is what a few NANPA members said about their experience.

As a new NANPA member and first time attendee, I was very excited for the Summit and eagerly anticipated it. My experiences in Albuquerque far exceeded even my most lofty expectations - I know I am a part of something special. The pure kindness, friendliness, helpfulness, and openness of my fellow NANPA members made me wonder why it took me so long to become a part! I very much look forward to increasing my participation in NANPA activities, and I thank you all heartily for your many hours of hard work and dedication. See you in Portland!
Drew Smith, Arlington, Virginia

The entire experience of NANPA was absolutely wonderful, something that will stay with me for a long time. The spirit of everyone attending was awesome, and I felt that the entire convention had a great atmosphere. I am looking forward to next year.
Kelly Curtis, Bradenton, Florida

It was my first Summit. The conference was amazing. The wealth of information, provided by top professionals was priceless. The field trips enabled me to get some beautiful images. The association with other photographers was encouraging. I participated in the Members' Slide Show; that was a neat experience because it was my first time showing my work to that many people at the same time on the big screen. I also bought some great books at the Summit. Thanks again and I look forward to attending the next Summit in Portland.
William Dunkley, Daytona Beach, Florida

MEET KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
Dewitt Jones

Come join us in celebrating as Dewitt Jones, a keynote speaker at NANPA's first meeting in Ft. Myers, returns to the Summit. Dewitt is one of America's top professional photographers with a career spanning more than 25 years, 20 of them as a freelance photographer for National Geographic. He has published nine books and his column, "Basic Jones," appears in Outdoor Photographer. As a motion picture director, he has had two films nominated for Academy Awards. Dewitt has also photographed national advertising campaigns for several corporate clients. A well-known motivational speaker, he addresses hundreds of corporations and associations throughout the world, and his training films are used by colleges, consultants, churches and corporations to teach ways to hone vision and harness creativity.

Keynote Address - Celebrate What's Right with the World!

During his long career with the National Geographic Society, Dewitt Jones lived the vision of "celebrating what's right with the world" and embraced an attitude that took him to new heights both in photography and in life. He found that the creative tools he employed as a photographer had an even deeper application when applied directly to his personal and professional growth. Using his extraordinary photographs, Dewitt will weave a visual tapestry of emotion and content, one that will allow you to touch your own passion, balance your head with your heart, and come away inspired with your own creative potential.

The NANPA Trade Show brings together a diverse group of photography-related products and services. We encourage you to stretch your imagination and explore the ever-changing tools and new technologies available from the exhibiting companies. MEMBERS' SLIDE SHOW AND
THE RETURN OF THE MEMBERS' SHOWCASE

Co-Chairs Wendy Shattil and Bob Rozinski invite 25 photographers to participate in the popular Members' Slide Show, using this year's theme, Shooting from the Heart. For the first time, all images in the Members' Slide Show will be required in digital format. Create a theme, illustrate an unusual technique or tell an unforgettable story reflecting your unique perception of nature and present it to an audience of editors, agents and fellow shooters. This is an opportunity to share your images, experiences and vision of nature with the rest of NANPA. Show us something fresh, original and, most important, fun! The Members' Slide Show takes place Thursday evening. In addition to the primary presentation, the Members' Showcase, a digital multimedia program, will feature some of the best images from all 25 photographers. It will be presented on Friday morning to the entire Summit audience. If you wish to be one of the presenters, register early! This event has always filled fast and it is estimated to do so again as it only has 25 presenter slots available this year.

SUMMIT SPOTLIGHT CORNER:

Portfolio and Editorial Reviews
Re-view \ri-‘vyü\ n (Fr. revoir, to look over):  a critical evaluation (as of a book, play or other creative work)

Because Portfolio Reviews are among the most popular events at NANPA's Summits, we have expanded them to an even more valuable experience. What began in 1996 with only a few hours and a limited number of professionals has grown into a daily review opportunity with nearly 30 editors, agents and professional photographers offering their critiques, guidance and expertise.

Portfolio Reviews are for all levels of photographers. Professionals can show their work to potential clients and photo buyers. The aspiring professional has the rare chance to learn tricks of the trade from the world's best. And fledgling photographers can get expert advice on just how marketable their talents really are.

In addition to making more time for the reviews, we have made them more comprehensive. Editorial Reviews are now available, which provide a forum for photographers to talk one-on-one with editors about specific story or book proposals. This immediate feedback can keep you from veering off course and keep you focused on a successful product.

Sign up for as many sessions as you wish by selecting your preferred Portfolio or Editorial choices on the Review Registration Form included in your Summit brochure or on the NANPA Website. But act quickly, because these reviews fill to capacity every year. Review sign-ups are honored on a first-come, first-serve basis. See page 30 of the Summit brochure for suggestions on what to bring to a review.

Each issue we will include a frequently asked question and answer section that we have compiled from NANPA members.  Please send your questions to Christy Powers.
