Mountain Gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei)

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda

It is estimated that less than 680 mountain gorillas currently exist in the wild. Due to their critically endangered status, tourists are only allowed to view them for an hour (once they’ve been tracked down). I was praying for nice overcast light when we did find them deep in the forest and that’s exactly what I got. This baby had been crawling all over its mother and finally settled in for a rest on her stomach.
