Jenny Wiley State Resort Park (KY) with Ron Gaskins & Amanda Haddox

October 23 - October 25

2021 is Mountaineer Photo Excursions’ tenth year of leading travel-based photography workshops across the eastern United States. Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in Prestonsburg, KY, was where we started in the spring of 2012. Amateur and advanced photographers have come to our previous workshops in the Park and enjoyed attractions there and elsewhere in the area. The Park consists of almost 3000 acres, over a third of which is Dewey Lake, all of which is surrounded by towering pines and peaceful mountains.

Instructors Ron Gaskins and Amanda Haddox are pleased to work with Trinity Shepherd, Park Naturalist, to present both the natural beauty and the interesting history of the area. Of course, we will embark on an “Elk Hunt” to see and photograph the nearby portion of Kentucky’s eight county free-ranging elk herd, which is estimated at 10-15,000 animals. Dewey Lake will be our Sunday morning venue, as we depart the Park Marina for a “Pontoon Boat Cruise” that will take us across the Lake and in the coves as we watch for heron, eagles, kingfishers, turkey, and deer, as well as beautiful fall scenery.

As always, we will also have other activities planned for the weekend in and around the Park. Amanda and Ron will share their photography knowledge and experience as you visit the various locations. Local transportation is included, and we will also offer lodging within the Park.

We are pleased that the COVID situation is improving in Kentucky and across the country. We hope that you will feel comfortable traveling and spending the weekend with us. We will be taking necessary precautions and will be operating in compliance with the Kentucky Governor’s current COVID-19 restrictions. This may include wearing a mask.
