View Full Version : Circular Polarizer Recommendation Sought

Greetings all,

I am planning to purchase a circular polarizer for my Canon 180mm Macro lens. I usually buy Hoya filters but in this case I want to make sure that I am not overlooking another brand that might be better for this particular lens. Any recommendations on brands or models that should be given serious consideration would be most appreciated.

If you go the Hoya route, consider getting the Pro version vs the standard filter. The standard version has a really annoying habit of falling apart. They use a pretty flimsy snap ring to hold the thing together and it doesn't like to stay put. You can put it back together just fine but it's a needless hassle.

Since I'm primarily a landscape guy I have a polarizer on more often than off. I use Heliopan and B+W now and am much happier than I was with my Hoya.

Thanks Doug. Valuable information indeed. Looks like I need to consider some new filter brands for my future purposes.

Your lens is only as good as whats on the front, cheap filters result in low image quality, I use the B+W MRC Kasemann, insanely expensive but flawless in every way. I agree that Heliopan also makes nice filters.
