Social Networks
What are the pro's and cons's of social networking? I can now add a "Post to Social Network" on my website (which is Photoshelter) but would like some comments from others before I add it.

Posting to one or more social networks can improve your visibility on the web and increase your chances of being found by searches. It also gives you essentially a news outlet where current activity can always be viewed.

However, once you head down that road you have to remain committed to making regular updates of some kind. New images, travels, observations, whatever... something to demonstrate active and ongoing involvement. If you let your social network go stale, you'll lose your audience.

Social networking
I am surprised that with over 2,000 members, only 18 are members of the Flickr! NANPA group.

Where is everybody??

Social Networking
The true problem with social networking is the time involved. Yes, you need to make regular updates, but I find that the time required to regularly post updates is the most prohibitive aspect. The other issue is that social networking doesn't always target the most appropriate audience - you have to consider that targeted marketing of a few hundred may be infinitely more effective than broadly speaking to thousands.

I've found that given the time involved with social networking that the payoff is so small as to make it not worth the time. If you enjoy the activity, do it if not don't waste your time.
