Trinidad and Tobago Photo Tour
February 6-15, 2015

Photo Tour : This tour focuses on photographing the spectacular birds of Trinidad and Tobago. Both of our lodges, Cuffie River in Tobago and Asa Wright Nature Center in Trinidad are excellent for bird photography. It includes multi-flash hummingbird photography, photography of motmots, tanagers and others coming to fruit feeders, boat trips to photograph Scarlet Ibis and Red-billed Tropicbirds and much more.

Tour Leader: Nate Chappell. Nate has made 2 trips to photograph the birds of Trinidad and Tobago, the most recent being in February of 2014. He knows the best spots and strategies for photographing all of the specialty species of Trinidad and Tobago - Tufted Coquette, Ruby-topaz and White-tailed Sabrewing Hummingbirds, Scaret Ibis, Red-billed Tropicbird, Bearded Bellbird and many others. Nate has permission to do multi-flash photography at both lodges and is an expert at teaching using flash for bird photography and photographing birds in flight. Nate worked with the staff of Asa Wright to further develop an area they have set aside for photography, it should have a productive water drip pond at eye level when we return.

What to Expect: A lot of great bird photography opportunities. For the multi-flash hummingbird photography you don't need a monster lens, 300mm is sufficient. For the other birds ideally you would have a set up that with teleconverters yields at least 500mm. This is the high season in Trinidad and Tobago, February is typically warm and drier although rain is always possible. The lodges both offer high quality accommodation and food. Nonphotographer spouses will enjoy the birding, cuisine and accommodations. Activity evel is fairly easy. Most of the birds are photographed right next to the lodges. The tropicbirds and bellbirds require a walk of about 1 mile each. Nate will give his presentations on photographing birds in the wild and using flash for bird photography.

Maximum participants - 6 photographers plus their companions.

Cost: $4,150 per photographer, $3,650 per nonphotographer spouse/companion. Single supplement $800.
