Earlier this month I received my D800E - just in time for a trip to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. One of the initial concerns about the D800E was potential for moire, and my greatest concern was moire with bird feathers.
After 2500+ frames of birds at the Alligator Farm, moire is not an issue. And the camera is spectacular. Detail is amazing - far beyond anything I had seen before. Even zoomed to 100% images look great. High ISO noise performance is very good up to ISO 6400 - and higher for small prints.
The updated AF system is very good and represents an improvement on an already good system.
Here are a few sample images with the Nikon D800E and 600 f/4 VR. The first is a great egret against a clean background and relatively easy capture. The second is a slower shutter speed to pick up some blur soften a busy background. I have also attached a third sample - a 100% crop of an image at ISO 6400 presented straight from the camera with no noise reduction. The noise is easily handled in Capture NX2 or Lightroom.
One thing I noticed is even older lenses are sharper than normal. My 200-400 VRI seems a little sharper than with earlier cameras.
