Default Argentina Wildlife Photo Tour, Oct 2013

ARGENTINA BIRD AND WILDLIFE PHOTO TOUR
October 16-27, 2013
Valdes Peninsula extension, October 27-November 2, 2013

The main destination for this photo tour is the Ibera Marshes in Northern Argentina. It ranks up there with the Pantanal in Brazil and the Llanos in Venezuela as one of the top 3 wetlands for birds and wildlife in South America. In addition we visit Iguazu Falls one of the largest waterfalls in the world. The lodges include Rincon del Socorro, a 5 star lodge in the Ibera Marshes and the Sheraton Hotel at Iguazu Falls, the only hotel inside the National Park, it has a great view of the falls.

The wildlife and birds in the Ibera are abundant and many of them are quite tame because there hasn't been any hunting in the region in 40 years. Waterbirds, raptors, kingfishers, capybara and caiman are abundant. Pampas Foxes are approachable and make great subjects. Endangered species that we should have good chances to photograph include Yellow Cardinal, Strange-tailed Tyrant and Marsh Deer. Much of the photography is done from small boats on the Ibera which gets you close to the birds and wildlife.

Nate Chappell will lead the tour, give presentations on bird photography and help you take your wildlife photography to another level.

Spectacular species we should be able to photograph include:
Jabiru and Maguari Storks
Plumbeous Ibis
Savannah and Great Black Hawks
Ringed, Green and Amazon Kingfishers
Yellow Cardinal
Marsh Deer
Pampas and Crab-eating Fox
Strange-tailed Tyrant
Scarlet-headed Blackbird
White-headed Marsh Tyrant
Greater Rhea
Cream-backed and White Woodpeckers
Southern Screamer
and many more

The extension goes to the Valdes Peninsula in Patagonia. This is probably the richest marine mammal area in the world. Southern Right Whales, Orcas, 2 species of dolphin, Elephant and Southern Fur Seals, Magellanic Penguins, Burrowing Parrots and many other birds can be photographed here. This is the only place in the world where orcas come up onto the beach to grab sea lion pups and we will be there when it's possible to see and photograph that phenomena.
