Camp Denali

Located 89 miles from the crowded park entrance and with spectacular views of Mt. McKinley, Camp Denali is a unique wilderness retreat for those seeking an in-depth experience in Denali National Park.

Founded in 1951, Camp Denali is Alaskaís original wilderness vacation lodge and nature center. Our mission is to help guests learn about the natural and cultural history of Denali National Park. Owned and operated by the Cole/Hamm family since 1975, it is Alaska at its best.

Camp Denali is situated on 67 acres of rising terrain, centered on a pond that reflects up to eleven major peaks of the Alaska Range. A hand-hewn log lodge, built by the founders in 1954, still offers up hospitality at the heart of Camp Denali, while guest cabins are set along an ascending ridgeline to take best advantage of the surrounding views. A new dining hall, a natural history resource collection, a modern shower and bathroom facility, and other public spaces radiate out from the lodge. Camp Denali sits right at the 2,400 foot tree line, providing access to native tundra and taiga habitats right from your door.

Accommodations at Camp Denali are in well-spaced cabins, appointed with traditional cabin amenities including hand-sewn quilts made by our staff, wood stoves and propane lights. Drinking water comes from a spigot by your door, and may be heated in your cabin for a quiet cup of coffee, tea or for washing up. There is no electricity in the cabins; there is a public space (the resource room) where guests can plug in computers, camera batteries, etc.

The dining hall, lodge, natural history resource collection and a modern bath and shower facility are a three to seven-minute walk from your cabin. In addition each cabin has a meticulously kept handmade outhouse, and each cabin enjoys clear views of Denali when itís out.

Accommodations at Camp Denali will be shared, two people to a cabin. Single supplement is NOT AVAILABLE, sorry.

In keeping with our mission, Camp Denali provides daily, guided outings and hikes. Our naturalist guides assist guests in first hand exploration of the parkís landscape, searching for wildlife, nesting birds and wildflowers and sharing their knowledge of Denaliís history and sub-arctic ecosystem. Nightly presentations focus on some aspect of Denali National Parkís natural and cultural history, including birds, mammals, wildflowers, tundra ecology, geology, mountaineering history, and natural resource issues. In addition to guided activities, mountain bikes, canoes and fishing equipment are available for independent use. Camp Denali is an authorized concessioner of the National Park Service and its sole historic operator.

Camp Denali may not be for everyone, but if you desire an experience away from the tempo of modern living and enjoy the camaraderie of kindred souls, you will not be disappointed.
