Question Puffballs - dull? interesting?

I took these shots of puffballs a couple weeks ago. In the first shot a staged the leaves around the puffball to add interest. Does it looked too staged? The second shot I lit with a gold reflector, and then flicked the puffball with my finger to try to get a shot with puffing spores, but without my hand in the way. I don't think I succeeded in making the spores very noticeable, but you can see some dusty stuff in the hole.

This is sort of a dull subject. What do you think of these shots? Interesting shots of a dull subject, or just dull all around?

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. Check out some of my other macro work, if you feel like it...

Default Puffballs

Mike
I like the first one, i do not think it too staged, but maybe a bit more depth of field would perfect it. I try mushroom pictures a lot and they are tough, just not dynamic beasts. The color of the leaves and location of the mushroom i think is what makes this work for me. The green one sort of leaves the mushroom by itself. Great photos on your web site.
