Unhappy Canon "Picture Styles" don't show up in Photoshop?

Shooting RAW - Does anyone know how to get Canon "Picture Styles" (e.g. Monochrome) to show up in Photoshop CS4 without having to use Canon DPP software to process first? If not possible, is there a way to download into DPP then batch-export into Photoshop so that Picture Styles show up in Photoshop on the RAW files. Camera is IDs Mark III. Could it be possible that Picture Styles only work when processing through DPP?

The only application, that I'm aware of, outside Canon's DPP that will allow you to use pictures styles is Adobe Lightroom. In the develop module you can select the picture style that you want to apply in the Camera Calibration section.

It's not a true implementation as it doesn't read the picture style that was selected during shooting but it allows you to apply them selectively after the fact.

Picture Styles are proprietary to DPP. However, Photoshop came out with camera calibration models awhile back in ACR and you can edit them to make custom profiles that can really be tailored to your specs. It used to be that PS didn't do a very good job with the reds, for example, in Canon files. That issue and a few others are pretty much resolved (to my satisfaction anyway). I find that no software I've used does a perfect job in every condition, and find it's still necessary to custom-profile.
