June 30 is the last day for Gordon Illg’s term as NANPA’s 25th president and when the board terms for Sean Fitzgerald and Ted Moreno end.

If there was a prize for the most meetings presided over, Gordon definitely qualifies!  In the last twelve months, Gordon led twelve teleconference board meetings, three teleconference executive committee meetings, two in-person multi-day board meetings, and the NANPA Business meeting held at the 2019 Summit in Las Vegas.   Not to mention, he participated in almost weekly meetings with me plus dozens of committee and planning meetings in the past year.  Gordon has been great to work with, and even though he travels a lot for his workshop business, he was always available to answer questions and kept in regular contact with me.  Gordon will continue his board service to NANPA as Past President for another year—where he’ll still get to attend plenty of meetings (but won’t have to lead them!)

Sean was elected to the board in 2013, served as president in 2015-16, past president in 2016-17, and vice president 2017-19.  Sean was instrumental in helping develop NANPA’s website re-design; reviewing and updating NANPA’s committee charges and structure; and evaluating and updating many of NANPA’s policies and bylaws changes. Sean has always been an advocate for photographers’ rights and access issues for photographers and will continue to help on the Advocacy Committee.

Ted was appointed by the board to fill the vacancy of Jaymi Heimbuch who stepped down in February 2018.  Even though his term was shorter than most, he caught on quickly and offered solid, well-thought out support and guidance at meetings.  Ted is one of the most organized people I know, and I appreciate his attention to detail and the fact that he’s always prepared for discussions.  Ted has chaired the Awards Committee since 2015 and will continue in that role.

Thank you to Gordon, Sean, and Ted for all you’ve done for NANPA—and that you’ll continue to do.  Please give my appreciation to your wives (Cathy, Karen, and Donna) for their support of sharing your time with NANPA!   It has been an honor to collaborate with you on the many projects and meetings we’ve tackled (and in some cases, endured) together!

President Tom Haxby and new board members Alice Robertson and Dawn Wilson’s terms begin on July 1.  I’m looking forward to working with and getting to know all of them better.  As with previous new directors before them, they’ll likely bring fresh perspectives and dreams that will guide NANPA’s future.

Cheers!
