  • I heard the news through a Facebook post. Monarchs by the hundreds, no thousands! were congregating in one location due to rain and wind as they migrated to Mexico. There was no chance I was missing out on such a sight. Off I went on a quest for images. The sight of so many has had an impact on my future endeavors and prompted me to work at becoming a conservation-oriented photographer. , Wendy Park, Cleveland, Ohio (Category: Macro/Micro/All Other)

  • The Cape Buffalo is one of the most powerful and feared animals in Africa, responsible for many attacks on humans. The only native buffalo in Africa, nearly 90% of the species were wiped out in the 1890's by Rinderpest. They've recovered and are no longer considered threatened. Large, dark and imposing, the cape buffalo is often overlooked as a thing of beauty.  I always try for images that show the more beautiful side of this powerful animal.  Using a series of layers to underexpose an image taken in the morning light, I've tried to convey the drama and mystery of this species., Chobe National Park, Botswana (Category: Mammals)
