This Week’s Images

  • I was following this Snowy Egret moving along the shore while it was digging for sand crabs. Just as I was able to align the reflection of the sunset with the Snowy Egret, it caught a sand crab and tossed it in the air, a nice morsel for its dinner at sunset. I was very happy to capture this scene. This natural moment embodies Santa Cruz, California, and the beauty of Monterey Bay., Natural Bridges State Beach, Santa Cruz, CA, USA (Category: Birds)

  • The icy terrain under a glacier has always fascinated me. This is a 2.5 hour starscape image looking through a moulin into the icy cosmos. This area collapsed a few months after I captured this image., Juneau, AK (Category: Scapes)

  • Waste surrounds a Cattle Egret in the Boragaon landfill located in Guwahati, India. The landfill attracts a variety of scavenger species and encroaches upon Deepor Beel wetland resulting in pollution, habitat destruction and wildlife deaths through toxic seepage. Once covering 4,000ha, the wetland has shrunk to an alarming 500ha. , The Boragaon Landfill located in Guwahati, India (Category: Conservation)

  • This is an image of the red and green macaws sparring on the edge of the cliff in The Pantanal, Brazil . It was amazing that they could land so easily on the ledges of this Cenote., Pantanal , Brazil (Category: Birds)

  • These sub-adult Coastal Brown Bears were bickering over mud-flat clams and one of them got angry and started chasing the other in circles. Eventually the one who was being chased took off straight down the beach and turned just before he reached us. Brown bears are known to be able to run up to 35 miles per hour and these guys were doing close to that. Hence the warning to 'never try to run from a brown bear'. He'll getcha!, Lake Clark National Park, Alaska (Category: Mammals)
