President's Message Board Meeting Report Wow, it's hard to believe, but the months have been flying by and half of my term as President is over. I am happy to report that your Board of Directors and the various committees have been busy these first six months. In fact the Board met in July and spent two days hard at work adding a number of new projects to our agenda. A new ad hoc committee for the high-school age students who wish to remain active within NANPA has been approved. There were a number of new proposals that involved business practices. I am happy to report that we will soon have a "Members Only" discussion area for business practices on our website, as well as a new Business Practices Manual courtesy of Jane Kinne and Deborah Free. The book will be offered for presale at the Portland Summit. The Board also approved NANPA involvement with the Pro Tour, which you will hear more about in the coming months. The Board got a sneak peak of the lineup for the Portland Summit, and it is dynamite! What a tenth anniversary party we will have. My hat is off to the various volunteers who make up our committees. There has been so much activity and excitement this year from you folks. A few comments: The Board has approved the slate of candidates proposed by the Nominations Committee. Once again, they have offered up some incredibly talented folks to help keep our organization on track. (See page 10 of this issue for a list of potential Board members are often identified when working on various committees? John Lock has put together a great website for us which seems to be changing by the hour. We now have online registration, the Members Only section I mentioned earlier, and a soon-to-be-added online store. By now you have heard about the NANPA BUCKS program. Please help us by recruiting new members to our ranks. It's hard to believe, but it costs NANPA more to take care of each member than we actually pay in dues, but for each member added to our ranks, that cost decreases. We can be more cost-effective by increasing the number of members. For those members who are willing, we would like to have your energy on our committees. This issue of Currents is dedicated to our committees, and various committee chairs have contributed the articles that follow my message. Many are asking for new talent to help round out their volunteer efforts. We know you're out there and we welcome your participation! Remember: this is your organization. Please volunteer for a committee. Last but not least, please look at the info on the Regional Summit in South Dakota that Juli Wilcox organized (page 3). This fun gathering will take place in October in the Black Hills. I look forward to seeing you there!
