President's Message What is Your Vision? This being NANPA’s Tenth Anniversary, it is impossible not to reflect on our inception at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute; nine great Summits; our goals and achievements; the hard work and dedication of staff and volunteers; and the thousands of man-hours of commitment from the board members, committees, and chairs. I would like to acknowledge past presidents Mark Lukes, Jane Kinne, John Nuhn, Larry Richardson, Bernie Friel, Connie Bransilver, Jim Clark, and Michael Francis. Each of them has carried out the honorable position of president with conviction, purpose, and passion to ensure NANPA’s growth and stability in building the finest association possible to serve its members. I’ve been asked what is my vision as president. In response to that question, I have tried to define NANPA. Since my belief is that the association is the membership, I would like to ask you, “What is your vision?” Please send your response to: smaka@comcast.net. In order to proceed with strategic planning for the future, we must know our needs. What do you want for NANPA? In the very first president’s message in 1994, Mark Lukes said, “We urge you to make your membership commitment more than just a monetary one. Don’t be a silent partner – become involved.” I reiterate those words ten years later. I invite you all to speak up and let the governing board know where you would like NANPA to go. It is your vision that will set the stage for the future of the association. I look forward to serving you with the same dedication as the past presidents. Thanks to all of you who have allowed me to guide NANPA into the next decade.
