President's Message NANPA Member Input At the Annual Summit in Portland and in my first President’s message I asked you, the membership, about your vision for NANPA. Thanks to all of you who gave me your input. Thanks, too, to every member who took the time to respond to the 2004 Summit Evaluation Survey and the NANPA Membership Benefits Survey. (See “Learn From the Old, Create the New” by Kathy Adams Clark for a summary of the Summit Evaluation Survey; it’s on page 2 of the July/August Currents.) The Membership Benefits Survey was incredibly successful with a 27 percent response. (Twenty-two hundred surveys were sent by email to members, and 603 of those members responded.) I’ve been reading the entire 266- page summary and reviewing each and every comment. As the governing body for NANPA, the Board now has this accurate and very meaningful data. In addition to feedback from you, NANPA’s Board of Directors thinks that it is important to find out what past members and non-members think about the association too. So we are conducting an informal campaign to ask for their views – what they feel NANPA is or is not, why it works or does not work, and how it might be improved. NANPA is strong, healthy, and growing. Our previous leaders created a sturdy foundation to build on. We just crossed the 2,500 mark for membership, and we had one of our most successful Summits this past January – not only in income and attendance, but also with a level of enthusiasm that can’t be measured. But now that we have passed our tenth anniversary, we have reached a point where we need to define where we are going. With your input, we can put into place the best programs and benefits that you, as members, need and want. The Board of Directors’ meeting will be dedicated to this task at its July meeting. What I’ve learned about this association is that it could not exist without the countless hours of dedicated effort by many volunteers. These hours are not only committed by the Board of Directors, but by committee members and chairs (16 committees with over 100 members), and by the many members and non-members who plan the Regional Forums and Annual Summits, including new members who often volunteer for grunt work onsite. Devoted volunteers also include Summit and Forum emcees, keynote, breakout, and workshop speakers, and field trip leaders and organizers. To all the volunteers, especially those who are seldom recognized, my hat is off to you. We truly appreciate your efforts and contributions to the success of NANPA.
