President's Message
November/December 2005

Environmental Focus
by Darrell Gulin, President

How fitting that my last president's message appears in the Environment Issue of Currents. Of NANPA's three major tenets, the environment is the only one that has a dedicated issue.

We are fortunate to be including articles by members who have long been committed to environmental issues. We encourage all NANPA members with something to say in this regard to contribute your articles as well. NANPA needs to dedicate more of its efforts towards educating the membership on environmental issues, especially as there are so many.

Our next Summit is going to have Friday evening dedicated to the environment and run by the Environment Committee. We hope you'll all be able to attend this well-planned event, which will feature some headline conservation photographers.

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Summit. I will be with Joe Van Os Tours in Antarctica, along with Joe and Mary Ann McDonald, on a 29-day trip. Though sad that I will not be there, I am confident that the presentation will be inspirational.

I leave the Summit and the presidency in Al Sieg's capable hands. I know that Al will do a great job and I thank him for taking over the duties a little early. I encourage all of you who attend the Summit to introduce yourself to him and volunteer your talents. NANPA is only as successful as its member volunteers - something I have firsthand knowledge of as your outgoing president. I am proud to say the experience has been incredible. You have made my job a pleasure.

Thank you all for your time, involvement, ideas and camaraderie. I hope that we continue to enjoy a strong and growing association. Stay tuned for a greater presence of photography on our website, in Currents, in our Member's Showcase and our new journal. It has been an honor serving you.
