President's Message NANPA Committees Shine NANPA is unique among photography associations in that we have a professional association management organization (the Resource Center) that is responsible for day-to-day operations and a large volunteer group of members who function as planners, implementers and doers. The latter group includes the board of directors and committee members. While the board establishes policy and oversees NANPA, it is the committees that provide much of the direction and workings of the organization. They are the backbone of NANPA. We owe a debt of gratitude to these tireless volunteers and all they do. This issue of Currents focuses on the volunteers who run our various committees, and it can help us all appreciate the great strides we have made to meet our stated objective of promoting the art and science of nature photography as a medium of communication, nature appreciation and environmental protection. We have greatly increased the opportunities for members to share their love of nature photography. One Regional Event was held in West Virginia in May, and another is scheduled for Alaska this September. These Regional Events provide education, photo opportunities and entertainment. To a photographer who has never (or rarely) shot in the location of one of these events, they can be an entrée to the natural history and wildlife of the area. They are particularly appealing to those who cannot attend our Annual Summit. Four Road Shows have also been scheduled for 2006. These weekend events bring top-notch speakers to different areas of the country and provide educational opportunities and personal interaction with the presenters. Our website continues to improve and grow. In addition to an online bookstore, we now have an online store for NANPA merchandise. Visit the site and experience all it has to offer including the members' discussion forums. The Members' Showcase was expanded in 2006 so that all members could participate rather than only Summit attendees. Why not enter your images in the 2007 competition for possible inclusion in this outstanding show? A different image from this Showcase is featured each day on our website. In 2006, we launched a wonderfully successful journal called Impressions. This book includes 250 juried images from the entire membership base taken from the entries to Members' Showcase. Impressions was sent to NANPA members and hundreds of photo buyers. Details on entering the Showcase competition for the 2007 book, which will be titled Expressions, will be available soon.
