President's Message
May/June 2007

Member Networking
by Kathy Adams Clark, President

I was sitting in the back of the room at one of my husband's writers' conferences recently listening to the welcome address. The speaker's theme was that everyone there was working for the same cause. The poets, columnists, storytellers and journalists all wrote about nature, and their cause is to bring the beauty and peril of nature to their readers.

It reminded me of the similar group we have in NANPA. The landscape photographers, fine art photographers and conservation photographers are all documenting nature in one way or another. The publishers, editors and curators are showcasing nature. And the vendors, tour companies and suppliers are giving us the tools we need to get out there. We're all working for the same cause—to bring nature to the public.

Like the writers, NANPA members are actively supporting the cause by sharing the story of nature and the natural world every day. The sharing ranges from teaching people what shutter speed stops the movement of a cardinal to what steps are needed to stop a proposed landfill. Our diversity is our strength and that's what makes NANPA so special.

I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities NANPA has for sharing. The next Road Show begins in St. Louis on May 4, and then stops in Vancouver and Denver later in the year. Registration is open for all cities. NANPA members are also invited to share the beauty of nature in Chincoteague this fall. Join us for a weekend of celebrating nature, learning and teaching.

Every day, members get together and share through the Discussion Board on the NANPA website. Have you been there?

Many members are also supporting their love of nature by volunteering for NANPA. Our organization needs lots of skills and volunteer hours to move forward. Are you serving on a committee, spearheading a program or offering to lead a workshop? I encourage you to volunteer when possible and in a capacity that works for you.

NANPA members have many opportunities to share the same cause, just like those writers at the conference I mentioned at the beginning of this article. There are many ways to share in NANPA and support nature. It's a wonderful community!
